The difference between the two is: marble is a metamorphic rock, formed from the original rocks in the crust undergoing high temperature and pressure within the crust. Granite is an igneous rock, formed from magma that erupts from the crust or from existing rocks that have melted and then cooled and solidified.
Marble generally contains impurities, and calcium carbonate is easily weathered and eroded under the influence of carbon dioxide, carbonates, and water vapor in the atmosphere, with a Mohs hardness of 3 to 5. Granite has a higher hardness than marble, making it difficult to process, but it is resistant to acid and weathering corrosion. It is not easily weathered or metamorphosed, and its appearance can maintain its color for over a hundred years, with a Mohs hardness of 6 to 7.
The appearance is different; granite does not have colorful stripes, mostly only colorful spots, and some are solid colors. The finer the mineral particles, the better, indicating a dense and solid structure.
Marble has a simple mineral composition, is easy to process, and mostly has a fine texture with a good mirror effect. Its disadvantage is that it is softer than granite, making it prone to damage when struck by heavy objects, and light-colored stones are easily stained and have stripes.
The simplest way to distinguish between granite and marble is to drop a drop of toilet cleaner on it; if it bubbles, it is marble, and if it does not bubble, it is granite.
